Pipeline Coating and Repair Inspection
Luna's terahertz TeraMetrix product line is capable of measuring the thickness of a multi-layer pipe coating, and examining the health of a pipe repair after it is applied.
The first line of defense, when thinning of a pipeline is detected, is to reinforce the pipe with a fiberglass composite wrap to increase the strength and reduce the likelihood of leakage. Terahertz imaging can verify that a patch has been properly applied, and can inspect an existing patch for degradation. By having a method of inspection that can see all the way through the patch to the surface of the pipe, evidence of a pipe breach can also be found before a costly leak occurs.
Regular inspection of pipeline repairs can extend their useful life, delaying the need to replace an entire section of pipe.
