RADAR radomes are enclosures that protect a radar antenna and are fabricated of a fiberglass and foam composite. Water intrusion due to damage of the external skin can interfere with the propagation of the RADAR beam.
THz imaging can easily identify areas where there has been water intrusion, and can even spot dry delaminations (as shown, center, below) between the fiberglass and the foam.
The health of composite structures is an increasingly important area of investigation as composites are being used in the aerospace industry to improve fuel efficiency an performance.
